Ive been playing IT since its early days, and LM has, by leaps and bounds, improved the game beyond all others. Although, recently, Ive been thinking of this game as a much bigger, higher quality mmo. Of course, all of these things would require some serious work, but every feature would add leagues to the games playability. This will also double as a quick review of LM!
Gameplay (Currently): 4/10
The amazing community, the vast places to explore, and the easy-to-grasp (if not simplistic) combat system give this mmo a good basis - the atmosphere in-game is very natural and welcoming, not over-imposing or too artistic - a perfect balance. However, LM and all other IT games lack something called a gameplay loop. You can go out and get medals, and therefore buy items - but why? the items are purely cosmetic, and with so many items, its hard for a player to even know if an item is rare or valuable. If we added monster parts, we could add crafting and armor - get cures, kill bigger monsters, get bigger parts, get better armor, get cures, kill bigger monsters... y'see where I'm going?
Multi-player (Currently): 9/10
This game is DEFINITELY created to be played with friends and to make friends on, with the addition of different stats on different races you can now effectively start to formulate hunting teams and roles (such as tank (bears), strikers (wolves), and scout (rabbit)). However, with little to no people doing this and very little to go about the ways to buff stats, it does start to pale in reasons TO play a herbivore character, and not just go full-force with alpha wolves.
Settings (Currently): 7/10
As a gamer with a higher-end computer which runs LM smooth as silk, I'd like to see LM add some more lighting effects, perhaps even attempt outlines for a more stylistic feel (think X&Y, or to a higher degree, RustHeart). I'd love to see the bloom toned down, or better yet, give a slider. I know Twilight Princess was well-loved for its bloominess, but this setting seems a little overkill at its current blurriness;; keeping it low can enhance the graphics quite neatly, even if a little cheaply. Theres all the settings a person could want, including the ever-elusive tablet mode, there isnt much going wrong here at all.
Music (currently) 5/10:
the music is nice, but not nice enough to make me mute my own music. It isnt grating and I do enjoy it, better than some IT serves [grumbles and glances at a select few].
Animations (currently): 1/10
The snake doesnt slither (and is also neon blue?), the gazelles dont gallop, nothing walks, tons of reused animations... I cant give this a big mark, despite how endearing these animations are. Some, however, are very nice, such as the manta ray! the character animations are scarily bad, the lion runcycle should be used for the lion, and there should be a deer for the deer and a rabbit for the rabbit - nothing runs in the same way - its driving me crazy!
Maps: 2/10
A LOT of the maps are very, very shoddily done. I, myself make FH maps and making maps like Savannah only takes a few dedicated days to create, perhaps not so much with IT Gardener, but I'd like to see more effort on fixing maps and removing bad ones. Lots of cheap textures and geographical impossibilities abound, but. However, it doesn't mean that there aren't some gems, such as the current Default and slenderwolf's forest, and those are just from the top of my head! However, on that note, there IS a lot of strange additives like Slenderwolf and portraits of users (mods?) that as a game-only player I didn't understand. If theres anything you should be avoiding, it'd be the Equestria map as a whole. bad height map, bad texture map, even the mobs were out of place, hard to find, and broke immersion for me. I gave an anonymous review before and you guys actually took it into consideration, and im really sorry for being a harsh critic - but you guys seriously learn fast and CARE about your game. so, for support...
Player Consideration: 10/10
I've had a lot of nice run-in with mods, and ive never seen one flaunt mod status in-game and have only seen polite consideration of my reviews. Ive also had the community help me when I was down, or alone in a hunting area (even making other characters to be on my level!) so, as always, this game gets a 10/0 for community, even if there's a sprinkling of immaturity here and there.
Suggestions:
Add a bloom slider
Add more lighting effects (especially with the model)
Add a 'herding' mechanism, walking routes?
Prey aggression
Prey flee if you're in fighting stance nearby
Skill Bar
new stash/inventory screen with images
more ground-cover (as you see in the plains of savannah, ect)
rocks, reefs, SOMETHING on the ocean floor
new height maps, 'less more, more big' maps, better maps.
monster parts (held in mouth?)
crafting (same mechanism as buying)
a new take on the IT graphics - outlines? painterly? realistic?
beauty pageants? give reason for ingame cosmetic items
Give an origin story or lore to maps/races. (Even something as simple as the Taguel's story from FE:A. (infact i'd love to see more warrior rabbits (can this happen please (pretty please))))
fluid trading system
music from newgrounds artists?
tree leaves moving, leaves, some way to represent wind?
a better understanding of nature (ive only seen one representation of the alternation of generations... tut tut!)
The LM that I want to see is something akin to Monster Hunter, so please consider playing that game - does it not remind you of what IT tries to achieve? if you cant play it, Hunting Monsters is a very good, very quick and comedic series about it. I mean this in the way of preparing to go on big hunts by going on many small hunts, by which LM/IT attempts with the progression from rabbits to bosses. Imagine: items that buff your max HP or speed, only obtainable by multiple boss parts via crafting. It'd be then, and perhaps only then, that LM could be considered a serious MMO by gamers far from the IT circles.
I dont really do much along the lines of forums, I just kinda wanted to speak my mind and hope that my favourite server continues to give the best gameplay. Ive been trying to get my friends to play this game, but they're off-turned by the looks of the gameplay and graphics :C I just wanna be bunnies with my friends!
