OKay, I've sorta had this idea floating about in my head for a while, but wasn't going to present it because I thought the game's coding would never allow it...
I just now realized; I thought the game couldn't ever have quests...or npc's...or currency......or more than one playable body at a time......... but the amazing people who code LM made that possible.... yah, you see what I'm getting at?
SOOOoooo down to the nitty gritty; What if certain "Special" or "Star" items gave the character abilities?
These items would be super-ultra-mega-ultimate-insane-flipping rare, and/or could only be bought from a special npc or even gained through some epic nearly impossible quest, and they would have a pro and a con to each of them.
Like, say, the mermaid body. It moves crazy fast in water, but on land it's slower than a grandmother snail.
So if there were a medallion to increase your attack rate, it would do that, but perhaps your health drops a few points. Something along those lines.
*Maybe your character could only have one special item equipped at a time...
*Depending on how powerful the special item is, the harder it would be to get...
*There could be such things as "Medallions of Healing" where the character periodically gains health like a dragon, but makes your attacks weaker or something like that..
*Or maybe even a "Helm of Chaos" that slightly increases the damage that your character deals to prey, but makes the attack rate lower.
I mean, the possibilities are simply endless... there could even be like... OHOHOH a personal shield thingy! Like a bubble with a cool animation that temporarily protects the player from all damage, but when it wears off, it..uhm... it does something ...BAD! /shot
