*PLEASE MOVE THE THREAD IF IT'S IN THE WRONG AREA*
So I was bored one day and decided to WRITE A STORY FOR NO REASON -Children cheering-
If you can be bothered, Read what I've done so far and tell me what you think!
-----
When you imagine a plains, what do you expect to be there?
If I was you, I'd expect nothing but Savannah grass - About elbow length, annoying cream-coloured pieces covering the length of the field which has spurts of greenery every so often, showing how much rain really hit the place. Every so often there would be a tree, a huge one that had large, dark green leaves covering a space big enough for a whole pride of lions to laze around like they usually did. In the trees would be those small birds that you could catch every so often, since they're not used to predators or even humans. There would be a huge lake or river in the distance, which most of it is dried up but it still held enough water for the few creatures living in the area. Every so often you might even see a large crack in the ground or dens and caves, right?
Now, imagine my reaction when I came out of one of these caves, seeing nothing but rain and greenish cream grass. I expected sunshine. This was definitely not sunshine.
But its been a while since i got out of that cave.
-Libbys' P.O.V*---
I ran across the weed-filled plains, which looked more like a swamp then before, as far as my short legs could carry me. I was on a quest - To find my sky-blue bandanna! Being a beagle cross Basset hound, this item was like... A third ear for me, and they aren't easy to ignore, let alone lose. I eyed my neck every so often, almost as if it would just appear at my neck again, instead seeing my white chest... Which was pretty unusual, keeping in mind that i had the bandanna since i was old enough to walk around. It was almost a custom for the hunters and dog owners in the village nearby, and last thing i knew it disappeared at the camp a while away, where we had hunted down some small gazelle. As i was running, i realized the weeds got thicker and thicker as i got closer to the lake nearby, which told me i was near the camp. When it was rain season, the whole area changed, from weather to the creatures that migrated. After this season was mating season for the wildebeest, gazelle and other prey so the hunters could hunt many more of the elders.
A large vine-like tendril managed to catch me off guard, and i tripped, rolling towards the rock den nearby. I wasn't sure if this was caused by man or waters and weather over a long time, but it usually held carnivores of all kinds finding a place to rest. It was almost like a law from what i knew, how no one attacked another kind in that den or around it, unless it was claimed by a pack - But i wasn't a wild animal, i didn't understand the system. I shook my head, my long brown ears going over my nose and back, which reminded me of the scarf i lost once more. I need to find it, I felt the muscles in my ears twitch to lower them, though my ears couldn't get any lower, surprising myself with a whimpering sound coming from my throat. Apparently i missed the scarf a lot. I got myself up from the odd laying position, untangling my front paws from the weeds and grass where i tried to stop myself going further and looked east, noticing the area of where the camp was. The camp's half a mile that way, I thought to myself, starting to proceed through the long grass and swampy areas.
"Finally there!" I barked in happiness, the view of the camp right in front of me. The area was scattered with lamp posts, showing this could be the beginning of a village in this barren land. The whole camp was powered by the sun since it was so bright around the area, as well as it feeling like summer for all the seasons except the end of autumn and winter. When there was less sun, the humans had a supply of flashlights and candles... But for now, being spring, they wouldn't be needed for a long time.
I gasped and froze, realizing what i'd seen in front of me.
A big... no, HUGE obsidian-furred canine, laying on their side against a lamp post to my front left. This was obviously not a humans pet - Their fur was ruffled, dry blood lay on their paws and no lead connected it to the surroundings. I didn't even dare to move, just in case they heard me. Were they awake? Maybe their sense of smell was developed like mine. Was it... A demon..? I looked towards what seemed like custom markings which were mainly on the ankles, cheek, ear and tail, and i could already smell what it was, even from a distance - Blood. They had done it themselves from the angle, so maybe they were a demon. I shook my head as much as i dared to. No. Demons don't exist, right? My owner told me and the children about them for fun.... Right? I slowly moved towards them. Demons have red eyes. If they're asleep, i could just... Check quickly. I'm sure they're normal, like... Yellow wolf eyes or brown dog eyes. I moved as slowly as possible, feeling a sense of relief for being a hunting dog. I flanked to the right, towards their back so if they did get up, they wouldn't see me straight away. A growling sound emitted from their throat, causing me to stop in less then a second, not daring to move except for placing the floating paw on the floor - Being caught upright was better then falling flat on my face... Or the canine itself.
Three minutes passed, yet it felt like forever. The possible demon was now breathing normally again, no growling to be heard. I sighed in relief at the fact this big guy next to me didn't get up, let alone murder me, but it wasn't the hard part yet. I slowly placed my white paws on the ground, making sure it wasn't loud enough for an asleep canine to pick up - Living with siblings was finally helping. Their head was so close now... Just a quick peek at their eyes, And that would be enough.
I made my way over to the front of the head, focused enough to hear every small movements my slightly chubby paws made in the grass and how fast my heart was beating. I didn't dare to take a breath and calm myself down, where i was now would be fatal if they heard - I was right in front of them, a breath away. I moved one paw near their head. Using the softer part of my paw pad, i softly touched against the grown canines eyelid, making sure my nails didn't clip their ear.
I slowly moved my paw, causing their eyelid to move up. And i stared. Their eyes... were red. Red. I moved my paw away from their face, moving away in shock. The eye was closed again, but i definitely didn't forget what i saw. Red eyes.
"Well, That was a little... Crude of you." A well-spoken voice boomed from what seemed like nowhere. "You could ask, But it's not as if you would wake him up."
I froze, moving away from the canine as quickly as possible without making too much sound then looked around me.
The same voice started to laugh, and as soon as i turned to my left, i saw the owner. A female as large as the canine on the floor with what i would call spotless fur - No dirt or scruffiness anywhere. She was covered with grey markings, which were on her muzzle, cheek, neck, legs, back and tail. Most of them were either triangles or lines, and some which looked like stitches on her mouth, collar bone area, elbow, near the hip joints and tail. The attribute that transfixed my vision the most had to be her eyes - They were completely black, Iris and Sclera. "Black eyes..?" I whispered to myself. She smiled, making me realize the stitches weren't markings but actually threaded between her upper and lower lips. "I was having fun, watching you struggle to stop him from waking up. Just for your own personal information, you wouldn't of, even if you fell on him, my dear."
